Egypt Play

My class performed the play "Isis and Osiris" yesterday. I thought it was nice. The students had fun. They clearly enjoyed performing this. Not a single student needed helpswith lines. Teensy glitches included some giggles from behind the stage at a no-giggles kinda moment & a light being switched off when it should have been on, but I think they all did a splendid job. The stage was "simple," but notice the great coffin!

Afterwards I realized that I seem to have an affinity for plays that involve the death of the quintessential god of light. Our play last year was "Baldur's Death." I think I better shoot for some comedy for next year!

Noah was Horus. We didn't use "Egyptian costumes," but I had each student put the hieroglyphs for their character on a t-shirt with fabric paint. The "good guys" had white shirts, the "bad guys" had black shirts, and the fire spirits wore reds, oranges & yellows. I am not going to post other pictures. I know I occasionally post student work other than Noah's or Nathan's, but generally I want to honor people's right to privacy and not put pictures on a blog without consent. I wouldn't want anyone to do that to me or my children either.

2nd Grade

Here's some of Nathan's 2nd grade work. I don't have any of Noah's 2nd grade books here, so I can't post any of those. I like to look at children's drawings and "analyze" them. I use "analyze" for lack of a better word. Children really reveal a lot of soul in their drawings. They can be amazing revelations.

An entry from the German book. I thought it was interesting that the house on the right is 3 dimensional. I guess I never realized he did this back in 2nd grade already.

This one is a funny favorite. A grandma on the motorcycle.

Nate's 3rd Grade Play

Nathan's 3rd Grade Play was today. It was "Joseph, The Dreamer." Nathan was Simeon, one of the twelve brothers. He was so nervous, but everything went just fine. He spoke clearly. One of his lines was, "While he's alone and far from home, we could... kill him..." The way he said it made everyone laugh. It was "just right." At first he thought he had messed up, but then he realized it was "just" good acting. As I looked at the pictures Nathan drew over the last couple of weeks, I realized he took this story into a lot of his artwork at home, too.

This is a picture he drew of Joseph, surrounded by his brothers.

Wet-on-wet watercolor of Joseph by Nate. I just love the colors!

Joseph as a shepherd in Canaan. The slave traders in the background.

Nathan as Simeon.

Noah's play "Isis and Osiris" is next week. Noah is Horus. As a teacher I struggle with plays, but my students are enjoying it. I will share some impressions when it has been performed. Nathan is in bed now with a swollen wrist and a fever. What a combination, eh?! Quite bizarre how kids can "crash" within an hour. Yikes. Someone tripped him & he fell just before the play. Not sure about the fever. The wrist is pretty swollen. Yikes. His class trip starts Monday... Never a dull moment, eh?!

Old Testament Stories By Nathan

Some images from Nathan's 3rd Grade Old Testament Stories Morning Lesson Book. Nathan is nine years old and loves to draw and paint. The sequence is random.

Isis & Osiris by Noah

Here are some pictures Noah drew to illustrate the writing of the story of Isis & Osiris. Some of them are cropped, but Noah always draws a beautiful sun in the sky on all pictures, which is nice to see & a habit his 1st grade Waldorf teacher brought to him. Noah doesn't like to draw at all by the way. He thinks he "stinks" at it. I think the pictures are lovely.

Osiris' coffin thrown into a tree on Byblos. King Malkandros is by the tree. His palace is in the background.

Isis is attempting to give her forces to the child of King Malkandros & Queen Astarte.

When Isis receives the coffin from King Malkandros & journeys back to Egypt, she hides it in the reeds away from Osiris' evil brother Set(h).

The Egypt block is over, although the class is still working on presenting the play of Isis & Osiris at the end of the month. Now Greece & Pentathlon, then Botany II (lots of practical things), then Alexander the Great, then summer break! Yay!

Ladybug Spa

The boys created this ladybug spa on the balcony. It's for ladybugs who need a break from the wild world. Yup. Two guests already. Sweet mango-peels for dinner. Sunshine. Oh, I want a vacation, too!
