Wednesday Girl Mittens

I'm really liking my "Wednesday guy." :-) A bit strange, but it wouldn’t quite be Cadi-life if there wasn’t at least a tad of strangeness. He’s awesome. In no particular order: Tall. Middle-aged (meaning mature!). Intelligent. Funny. Sexy. And that kiwi-accent! Ahhh. So, so sexy! I stitched these mittens up for him in a knitting frenzy... I used Schulana Tweed Lux – 85% Wool; 10% Silk; 5% Cashmere. – A luxury of yarn. The pattern was a combo of Cadi-ishness (or Wednesday girliness) & the [Protect His Hands] Mittens pattern from the book Never Knit Your Man a Sweater* … * unless you’ve got the ring by Judith Durant. (Not quite sure why they think that socks are less of an involvement than mittens, but anyhoo.) Green is *not* his favorite color, but it’s mine. I love green. And he actually just painted his living-room green just for me! (Haha. Just kidding. Inside joke. I can’t wait to see pictures!) – I find the yarn a very guy-ish kind of green, though. I think he will like it. (???) As I knit these, I imagined his strong, warm hands. So much love I put into each stitch! If only he knew. ;-) I realized (although I knew this) about halfway into the first mitten that it is SUMMER down under. There’s nothing better than a pair of toasty wool mittens in the middle of summer, huh? Manifestation for 2009: Summer break in New Zealand. (I love winter.) I’m just the "Wednesday girl," but that’s quite alright. I really like my "Wednesday guy!"

Oh yeah. Christmas. It was okay after I came to terms with the fact that I just wasn’t going to be on *that* plane… (although I’m not so sure that I have come to terms with it completely) which was right about when it felt like I had cried so much that I was out of tears. I took the boys to a little neighborhood church for a traditional Baptist Christmas-Eve service. It was a warm evening. I wore a summery linen dress with a blouse & felt comfortable. I smirked more than once during the service. It’s just not my belief system, but the ritual was very nice. We played Harry Potter Clue & Nathan tried to use his snap circuits to run electricity through my down vest to see if I would feel the 6V buzz. Still a bit out of sorts (from melancholy, not the 6V buzz), I forgot to fix dinner, so we ate chocolate, cookies & oranges. The boys are enjoying their bikes and Jimi Hendrix/guitar shirts… Noah & Nate got me some Mamma Zu’s dark roast coffee on a secret trip to the neighborhood coffee shop. It was lovely. A stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy & a plum tart with whip cream – That was Christmas Day dinner. You can’t beat the Whole Foods bakery when you’re too down to do the home-baking kinda thing.

Insightful Holy Nights!
