This past week it was time for some animal drawings in 2nd grade. Owls, birds, mice, lions & bears to be specific. We took a step-by-step approach, using basic shapes. I tried to convey the idea of drawing with living lines & also to build a shape from the middle out rather than starting with outlines - in all of it staying away from the cartoonification of the animal. We did one as a guided class drawing & then the children came up with their own, unique ones...

I just LOVE the smiling owl in the top position. It makes me smile. The kids did a bang up job.
